West Fork Boulders

Solid rock, great views, and good temps.

Information

A great bouldering site for dry rock and cooler temps and climbable six to seven months of the year.

However, with
an east facing boulder field and full view of the sun, it can get hot in August.

With a short approach of about two to three minutes at most from the road you'll find bouldering problems that range from VB to V7 on boulders up to thirteen feet tall.

Directions
From Portland, OR
  • Drive east on I-84 to exit #62 at Hood River.
  • Drive south on 12th street as it zigzags south into the country on State Highway #241.
  • In about 8 miles turn right, cross a river, and drive through Dee (a small cluster of houses in a farming area).
  • Continue west on NF13. The NF13 road splits (its a loop).
  • Take the left road on NF13.
  • From a junction drive south on NF18 (Lolo Pass road) for approximately 1/2 mile and park alongside the road.
  • Just uphill is an obvious talus field with the primary cluster of boulders.

Recommendations

  • It is recommended that you bring 1-2 crash pads for most of the common problems.

  • Cell phone reception is very poor.

  • A good pair of approach shoes helps with accessing the boulders.
