Lost Lake Boulders
One of this regions best bouldering sites located near Lost Lake on the north west side of Mt. Hood.
InformationLost Lake Boulders is certainly one of this regions best bouldering sites, a place loaded with an endless list of problems (VB to V12+) of every specter possible from slabs, overhangs, to crimp power lines.
The site is an extensive talus field, separated into three main talus zones; the upper, the middle, and the lower north talus field. Several paths lead into each primary zone. The most popular zone for bouldering is the upper talus field located immediately above the paved road. The typical size of the boulders here range from 8'-15' tall, though a few 25'-30' flat laying monstrous stones do exist. A hiker's trail wraps downhill between the middle and north talus field and another trail wraps downhill between the middle and north talus field. The site has the potential for about 1000+ boulder problems, but that total quantity will take a number of years to fully develop. The total existing problems to date is expanding exponentially, a little bit more each year. Access is feasible from late May to early November (situated at 3,000' elevation). However, the snow hinders access for the remainder of the year. The road leading to Lost Lake is paved (a popular tourist site). The final 1.4 miles on NF13 road beyond the lake to the bouldering site is paved (though it's closed due to a washout). Lost Lake Resort campground is a popular lakeside camping facility. The lake is day use accessible, has a general store, offers 148 campsites, a public boat launch, lodge rooms for rent, RV's spaces, etc. The general store has basic amenities from Groceries, Beer/Wine, Fishing Tackle & License, prepared foods, etc. See the Lost Lake Resort website for more info. |
